The London Centre is the new home for NLA, which styles itself "an independent, purpose-led organisation for everyone with an interest in London's built environment".

Its website continues: "From public realm to workspaces to London’s homes and more, NLA’s broad range of projects, research and events connects London’s network of professionals and enthusiasts, uniting the industry to shape a better city."

A large space has been found for NLA in the West Wing of Guildhall, located on Aldermanbury Street in the City of London. This is now a public gallery, where the three amazing architectural models can be seen together for the first time.

There will be weekly free model talks on Friday lunchtimes delving into the history, present and future of London’s architecture and built environment.

It also has a permanent display - called Change, Opportunity, Vision - looking at London's transformation over the past 20 years. In addition, it will also host events, talks and exhibitions.

The three architectural models are:

  • the New London Model displaying a ~200 sq km portion of Central London,

  • the City of London Model, and

  • the Royal Docks Model.

I popped in recently to look at the three models and took some photographs, some of which are displayed below.

I also made a video around the City of London model, which is like taking a helicopter ride (see below). It includes views of landmarks such as Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, the Thames, Tate Modern, St Paul's Cathedral, Fleet Street, Smithfield Market, The Barbican, Liverpool Street Station, the eastern cluster of tall skyscrapers and lots more.

For anyone with an interest in London, architecture, or models, the London Centre is a must!
